I sold images to a tv company & a photo agency has taken screen grabs of the images & sold them, is this legal?

I also sold the images to some national newspapers, however can I claim money from the agency that sold my images, for damages or breach of copyright. They have said that uk copyright law embody exceptions, specifically to permit such transmissions "for the purposes of news"
