Can hens be to old to hatch chicks?

My oldest hen died because my dumb a** neighbor who found her from his dog who brought her to him. She was still alive and healthy the dog dint kill her just wanted to give her to my neigbor. But it seems like my neighbor is dumber then his own dog. (Not saying that his dog is dumb) So the neighbor got sick of the hen and let her out in the wild alone and the hen is not a wild hen. Any way so we came to him and asked where our hen was and he gave the dumbest excuse he said he thought she would be able to make it back to our house from his and his house is like one fourth of a mile from ours. Any way so the hen that died was our oldest and smartest hen. My dad found one of her eggs and wants to incubate it but i just want to know if the egg can hatch even from an old hen?
